The Ikiryō

Writing Proteus Rising (currently at 37.5K words) and the need for Riddaeon to catch a transport somewhere... Like I was going to turn down the chance to design a new shop and create a new crew. 😉

The ship was inspired by a scratch outline drawing I did of a Raven. I wondered if it could be the plan of a ship and though the sketch is not completely true to the outline, it's certainly a good start for conceiving the ship.

I've also recently discovered Artflow.ai - an AI character generator. The results can be hit and miss but it's a good way of conceptualising characters.

The Ikiryō is named for the Japanese term for a 'living ghost' that leaves the body of its 'still alive' host and wonders the Earth haunting people. On board, the captain is also referred to using the Japanese term for the position - "Senchou."

It's no coincidence that the crew contains a young Japanese girl of around 20. But that's a story for another time.

The biggest surprise for me though was the image I got fro Riddaeon. I never really conceived him with these looks but as soon as I saw it, I just liked if for the character... it's growing on me too so I think this will be how I see him from now on.
